Like Father Like Son

Driving home from last night's Tuesday evening throwdown ride in Delaware I pulled up behind Tom Will to see he was using the same mode of transportation to get he and his bicycle to and from the ride that his son Andy used at last year's Mid Ohio race. Pretty resourceful if you ask me.

last night's ride was a hot one with temps in the upper 80's as I rolled into Deleware around 5:30. The pace was strong and we could tell who the fit racers are in our group as we rolled through the rural roads of Deleware County.

(Not) Gone but (maybe) forgotten

Hola Chicos,

Well, what can I say -its been a long long time since I posted anything to my blog. Like a tree falling in the forest when no one is around, this blog probably isn't noticed anymore due to the lack of content. Hopefully I can get back on track and bring things up to date.

As far as riding is concerned, racing has been non existent for me this season. I came out to race at Mid Ohio with my fellow Breakaway boyz earlier in the Spring and surprised myself by hanging with the pack until the finish. Mid Ohio is always an awesome venue and I love riding around the race course any time the opportunity presents itself. My fellow Breakaway team mates have been having a strong race season. Marco, Godfatha, Farmer John et al are shaking things up each week.

Last year was a really great race season for me and our team, but this year has presented some other areas of focus for me so I am approaching cycling from more of a recreational and fitness perspective this summer. I am cheering on my team mates from the sidelines this season and hoping to tee things up again in 2010.

A few weeks ago I returned from an incredible 2 week trip to Peru. My beautiful girlfriend and I traveled south to visit Lima, Cuzco, Machu Pichu, Ica, Nazca and the Amazon jungle. Words can't explain what an incredible adventure we shared together. I promise to post some photos soon! Now that I have caught the travel bug we are already thinking about where our next adventure may take us.

Last weekend I was on the bike for the first time in 3 weeks - what a reality check! All the power was gone from my legs and I realized how much work lays ahead of me to try and regain some portion of my lost fitness. No worries - my hope is to begin riding as many times a week as possible.

Upon my return from vacation I learned of the untimely passing of Larry Allen, a close friend of our Breakaway cycling family. A strong rider and a man of outstanding character, I'll fondly remember Larry from our weekly training rides and our group cycling trips to Boone, N.C. Larry was taken from us way too soon and he will be missed!

Well, that's about all for now. Hopefully this posting signals my return to the blogging world with more postings to follow soon.

Enjoy and be safe!
